SCDOI report on SC Hurricane Model

The S.C. Department of Insurance has posted its Report on the Feasibility of Developing a South Carolina Hurricane Model.  The report was produced per the requirements included in S 569, The Competitive Insurance Act, which was adopted last year.

Specifically, the Department was charged with conducting a study "to assess the feasibility of the creation of a hurricane model by the State, with particular emphasis on the associated costs and physical/logistical requirements.  The study also must assess the benefits to consumers of a South Carolina-produced model, including an evaluation of whether it would yield more accurate assessments of risk and better rates."

The report includes an introduction that provides context relative to the study's objectives, a background on hurricane models, potential benefits, possible consequences, cost estimates, and recommendations.
