Congratulations to Ashley Brady of First Charter Company Inc in Marion, SC, who was honored with the national Sydney O. Smith award earlier this month while representing South Carolina independent agents at the IIABA Legislative Conference.

The Sidney O. Smith Award goes to a Big “I" member who has shown outstanding legislative involvement and advocacy for the past year on behalf of independent agents. It's a way of honoring someone who has displayed true leadership, who rolls up their sleeves and goes to bat for the community and businesses in the area of government affairs.

The award is bestowed annually by the national Big "I" and the Independent Insurance Agents of Georgia and named in honor of an IIABA past president and Georgia agent who was instrumental in focusing the association and its members on legislative advocacy. The award is the national association's highest individual government affairs honor.

Brady (pictured at right with Jim Murphree of Alabama, Big “I" government affairs chair, who presented the award) was awarded for his service advocating before state and federal elected officials on behalf of the independent agent system. He served on the government affairs committee, including as chairman. He is one of the top 25 all-time donors to InsurPac, and has served on the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of South Carolina (IIABSC) board and on the national Big “I" Board of Directors.
