What you and your agency staff need to know about coronavirus in South Carolina

COVID Vaccine priority – Insurance industry included in Group 1C

IIABSC has confirmed that South Carolina insurance industry employees – including any and all staff members of independent agencies – qualify to receive the COVID-19 vaccine with Phase 1C. This qualification is determined by the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) applies to South Carolina residents receiving the vaccine in South Carolina.

South Carolina is currently (MARCH 2021) offering vaccinations to Phase 1B. Phase 1C expects to open in mid April.

IIABSC members are encouraged to follow the updates provided by SC DHEC.

UPDATE:   Governor Henry McMaster and DHEC announced on 3/26/21 that all South Carolinians aged 16 and older will be eligible to receive the COVID vaccine after March 31.



Funds Remain in TRUSTED CHOICE COVID-19 RELIEF FUND (Feb. 2021)

The Trusted Choice COVID-19 Relief Fund is intended to provide critical relief to independent insurance agencies and brokerages, owners and employees experiencing a significant economic disruption or financial distress as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and awards to nearly 700 agencies have been granted. There are still funds remaining. Agencies who have experienced unplanned costs are encouraged to apply now, before all the funds are depleted.  Contact CovidRelief@iiaba.net with questions.

AGENTS ON RESUMING MEETINGS WITH COMPANY REPS

In late August, IIABSC conducted a survey among agency members including agency principals, producers, CSRs and other staff to assess the willingness and readiness of agencies to conduct meetings with company reps. We received responses from 174 participants and their responses are reported here.

Bulletin 2020-02 encourages industry to work with consumers
Director and SCDOI are expecting the insurance industry to “do the right thing” for insurance consumers. This action could include extending cancellation and non-renewal deadlines or extending premium payment deadlines among a number of other areas where consumers may request help. If agents encounter situations where this bulletin is not being followed, please share with IIABSC President Frank Sheppard.
