Cheryl Koch, CPCU, CIC, ARM, AAI, API, AAM, AIM, AIS, ARP, AINS, ACSR, FIS; President/CEO, Agency Management Resource Group
Cheryl Koch has been in the insurance industry for a very long time. She has served in nearly every capacity in an independent agency. She now devotes her time to agency management consulting, training and speaking at industry functions throughout the country. She is the President and CEO of Agency Management Resource Group located in Lincoln, Calif. Cheryl consults on marketing and sales, sales management, agency operations, automation, and strategic planning.
Cheryl is also a devotee of lifelong learning and has earned a number of insurance industry professional designations. It is AFIS (Agribusiness and Farm Insurance Specialist) of which she is most proud, having created it along with the late Dr. Emmett J. Vaughan.
Cheryl has a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from UCLA and an MBA from Sacramento State University, where she served as a faculty member in their Risk Management and Insurance program for many years. She has also served as President of the Sacramento Chapter of CPCU and was on the CPCU Society’s Board of Governors for three years.
Cheryl serves as a volunteer member of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America Virtual University “Ask An Expert” panel. She is also a member of the Society of Insurance Trainers and Educators (SITE) and the Society of CPCU.
When she’s not busy with her insurance activities, Cheryl enjoys spending time at baseball games, and has been to nearly every major league ballpark. She is a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, which should explain a lot about her.

Director of Insurance Update
PRESENTED BY: SC Insurance Director Ray Farmer, SC Dept. of Insurance
Ray Farmer was appointed by Gov. Nikki Haley to serve as Director for the South Carolina Department of Insurance on Nov. 13, 2012. With more than 33 years’ experience, Farmer served as the Deputy Insurance Commissioner of the Enforcement Division for the Georgia Department of Insurance and more recently Vice President for the American Insurance Association.
Farmer was named the IIABSC Industry Person of the Year in 2014 for the Department’s support of the benefits independent insurance agents bring to consumers. In 2012, he was awarded the Herman Hass Award by the Independent Insurance Agents of Georgia and a Presidential Citation for Outstanding Service to the insurance industry from the Professional Insurance Agents of Georgia.
CLOSING SESSION: E&O Issues for the Virtual Office
Richard F. Lund, JD, Vice President, Senior Underwriter, Swiss Re Corporate Solutions
Richard Lund is a Senior Underwriter in the Independent Insurance Agents Errors and Omissions Program (IIP) of Swiss Re. Richard is responsible for underwriting E&O business in Iowa, Tennessee and Texas. In addition to his underwriting duties, Richard is the E&O Risk Management Coordinator and oversees loss control and risk management for the IIP. He works closely with IIABA and state associations to develop, implement and promote ongoing risk management efforts for independent agents. He has also authored numerous insurance agents E&O articles and presented loss control and risk management seminars, webinars and podcasts across the United States.
Richard has been with Swiss Re since June 2006. He originally began with Employers Reinsurance Company (ERC) in 1992 as a claims counsel in the IIP claims department and continued there until 2001 when he went to work for the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. As an attorney in the general counsel’s office, he handled legislative research and drafting, contract negotiations, and human resource issues. Richard returned to the former GE Insurance Solutions in 2003 in his current role.
