Hurricane Season has begun, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is predicting higher-than-average activity with at least 3-6 major hurricanes. Much like coronavirus has complicated everything else this year, it is very likely to complicate evacuations a variety of ways, including the availability of supplies. As the association has for the past eight years, we partnered with the SC Department of Insurance and other industry leaders to mark the beginning of hurricane season and help consumers get a head start on disaster preparedness. Chairman of the Board Jay Taylor represented SC Trusted Choice agents this month outside the Bluffton Home Depot, handing out 200 free starter emergency kits to local shoppers. (+ More...)

Our awards banquet is a highlight of the annual convention, as important industry contributors are recognized. Here is your chance to nominate the next recipients of the Hayne P. Glover Jr. Agent of the Year, Young Agent of the Year and Industry Person of the Year awards. Recipients are nominated by other members. Deadline is Aug. 14. IN MEMORIAM: Ferrell "Larry" Lafayette Holley, Jr.
Ferrell "Larry" LaFayette Holley, Jr of Aiken, age 74, died in the company of his family on May 12, 2020. Larry worked for nearly 50 years at the Hutson-Etherredge Companies agency in Aiken, later years as President and Treasurer. He graduated with a business degree from Wofford College and later earned an MBA from the University of South Carolina. He also served in the Army during the Vietnam War and received the Bronze Star. He contributed to a number of business boards and committees within the insurance industry. The family requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Millbrook Baptist Church Cemetery Fund., 223 South Aiken Blvd., Aiken, SC 29803. Memorials may also be made to the IIABSC Foundation, 800 Gracern Rd, Columbia, SC 29210.
Trusted Choice GIVE Movement raises $18, 190 for SC Make-a-Wish in one week

During the week of June 1-8, 143 donors came together with eight top givers to raise $18,190 for Make-A-Wish South Carolina as part of the nationwide Trusted Choice GIVE movement. Thank you so much to everyone who contributed and to our Young Agents for their fundraising efforts. Your donations will have a life-changing impact for local children and families within our community and state. There are currently close to 350 children waiting to have wishes granted in SC, and the average cost of a single wish is $7,500. We hope to grant as many wishes as possible! (+ More...)

Agency Members named Rough Note's June Agency of the Month
Atlantic Shield Insurance Group in Mt Pleasant, "Hard work, dedication and help from family and friends"
IIABSC member agency Atlantic Shield Insurance Group in Mount Pleasant was recently featured in Rough Notes magazine as the June 2020 agency of the month. The piece talks about the different phases of the agency since it was founded nearly 20 years ago, from the hustle of the startup, knowing when to slow down and cultivate existing accounts as well as fine tune agency procedures and then when to stop micromanaging and look ahead for further growth.
